Congratulations to Jason McLachlan and the late Bruce McLachlan who have won the Trainer's Premiership for season 2008/2009.  Sadly, Bruce McLachlan passed away during the season after forming the first training partnership in Queensland with his son Jason.  Bruce had trained 11 winners before joining with Jason in November 2008.  Their premieship tally had to start again but they were an instant success training 54 winners at a stike rate of 24%.  Bruce won the Sunshine Coast Turf Club training premiership on 10 occasions including the past 8 seasons.

Congratulations to Jana Piper who has won the 2008/2009 Jockeys Premiership.  She becomes only the second apprentice to win the overall premiership and the first female jockey to win the Sunshine Coast title.  Damian Browne made an impressive comeback to rack up 42 winners from only 108 rides in the 2nd half of the season.  In third place was another promising apprentice in Owen Turpin who had 41 winners.
Apprentice Premiership
Congratulations to Jana Piper who has taken out the Lianne Crook Memorial Shield as the SCTC Apprentice of the Year.  In an outstanding effort Jana rode 45 winners to also take out the overall jockeys premiership.  2nd on the apprentice premiership was Owen Turpin with 41 winners with Mitchell Speers finishing 3rd with 17 winners.

The shield is named after Lianne Crook who won the the award in 1992.  After a tragic accident claimed Lianne's life, the award in 1993 was dedicated to Lianne's memory becoming known as the "Lianne Crook Memorial Shield" for the Apprentice of the Year.  The perpetual shield resides in the Club's Administration office.
