Trainers race for golf buggies in quirky new Friday night challenge

The Sunshine Coast Turf Club is putting a fresh spin on Friday night racing this summer. A golf buggy goes to the leading trainer at every meeting in the new SCTC Night Racing Trainer Challenge.

The club led challenge kicks off on Friday 13 November and runs across eight Friday nights at Corbould Park through to 12 March. That’s eight SCTC-branded golf buggies up for grabs, one every Friday, plus the bragging rights.

how it works

Trainers earn points in every race on the card:

  • 1st: 10 points
  • 2nd: 6 points
  • 3rd: 4 points
  • 4th: 2 points

Points from all of a trainer’s runners add up across the night. The trainer with the most points after the last race is crowned that meeting’s Challenge Winner and drives home a golf buggy. Ties are decided on countback, starting with the most winners.

Entry is automatic for every licensed trainer with an official starter on the night. There’s no form to fill in.

racegoers, pick your stable

It’s not only the trainers who get a new reason to love Friday nights. Pick a stable, follow their runners through the card and be there when the winning trainer is crowned after the last race.

Challenge Dates

The challenge runs alongside Racing Queensland’s new Summer Scorcher Series, which brings boosted prizemoney, feature races and benchmark time bonuses to night racing at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club, Corbould Park from 13 November.

Eight Friday nights. Eight golf buggies. Race for the buggy!
